Why I hate the LIRR

Published by AnksConsulting LLC at 10:50 am under blog

Instead of getting to work at 8:45, like I usually do, I got to work at 10am. Why? Three very simple reasons, signal issues, cancelled train, and a minor accident at Jamaica. I’ve got no idea what the signal issue did, it might have actually caused the accident. But the cancelled train caused me to get on the next train from Hicksville, which was packed as a result; this happens anytime you try to crap people that usually go on two different trains onto one train. We’re all packed in this train, and it starts making extra stops to pick up more people (again because of the cancelled train), and it gets even more stuffed in there. As a result of these frequent stops, we get to Jamaica later than we should have. Had the train gotten there closer to the scheduled time, we would have gotten to the station much faster. But basically we were stuck at Jamaica for a good 40 to 45 minutes. I can’t wait till I move off Long Island…

Another long break between updates…

Published by AnksConsulting LLC at 1:42 pm under House Hunt, blog

I know, I’ve been terrible at updating this blog on a regular basis; I really should work on it going forward. So, what have I been up to in the last month or so? I’ve still been busy at work, same project as before had another part to it that we needed to get done. No late nights, but just a lot of work as a result. I’m also continuing my studying for the CFA test on December 6th… I hope I do well on it; since it pretty much covers the four years at Stern. I’m really not sure why I’m taking the test, it doesn’t matter for my current job, and won’t matter for a job going forward, probably. I’m doing it for the sake of doing it.

I’ve also started work on application essays for my MBA. I have to write four essays and I’ve got a draft done for one of them, and basic outlines for two more. The final essay shouldn’t be too difficult either, so I think I’m on track for the application process. I’ve also been seeing a lot more places in Hoboken; I’ve seen a total of 15 places over the past several weekends and I really liked four of them. I think when I’m going to be ready to make offers (January) there should be plenty of choices available to me.

Finally, Stern recently sent out a little survey asking for feedback from recent alumni, along with a chance to win a pair of tickets to the Stern Alumni Ball. Since I know Stern had terrible response rates, most email surveys have low rates, I decided to fill it out and enter the raffle drawing. And I ended up winning the tickets. So, I’ve got a pair of tickets to the Stern Alumni Ball on December 6th. It’s supposed to a very classy event, and this year it is at the Rose Center at the Natural History Museum, so it should be a fun time. I should put some pictures up from the party at some point, so look for a link or something.

That’s all for now, more when I get more time to write.

Review: Burn After Reading

Published by AnksConsulting LLC at 9:27 am under Movies

I finally got around to watching Burn After Reading last night. Based on the trailers I had seen for the movie, I had pretty high expectations for it. Unfortunately, the movie fell flat; it wasn’t anywhere as funny as the trailers made it seem. Sure, there were moments that were really good, and hilarious but overall the movie wasn’t all that amazing. Maybe my expecations were too high, but the comedy wasn’t working for me.

In the end, I really can’t say that I would suggest watching this movie. But you’ve got nothing else to do, then go for it.
